At a more common level these days than the first two answers, rendering in computer graphics work is producing a finished image from the simpler working wire grid or prismatic surfaces that the computer can handle quickly for editing but that do not look realistic to the human eye.

A pure wire frame would first be converted to a series of flat surfaces/triangles which would then be recomputed to curves that blend into each other smoothly. Then various images of surface textures would be applied - skin tones or brick walls - and lighting and shadows would be calculated.

Rendering can take many hours in the case of highly detail images on a fairly slow computer. Rendering is one of the reasons a computer graphics person buys a high memory, higher speed, more expensive, computer - both for less wasted time while creating images and for more realistic games.

As far as artwork goes it is pretty close to the answer given above for brickwork. What you'll usually hear in ref. to rendering is...this piece has been rendered to a high level of finish or slightly rendered etc. This has to do with the level of detail, corrections and refinement of a particular work, although it also can refer to the amount of technique employed to produce a piece. A quick sketch is usually "rendered" quickly, leaving only suggestions of the true amount of detail...a drawing is usually a name given to a work that is rendered "worked" to a higher level of detail, finish, refinement.

Hope that helps you get a feel for rendering. I think the dic. def. is probably just to produce something or the process of producing an item etc.

In drawing and illustration, this refers to the amount of detail in the drawing, usually referring to the use of shading to create a realistic image. So if you talk about rendering the image, it usually means adding details such as lightening to create a finished piece.

In 3D graphics, rendering refers to taking the models and materials and outputting a final image, or render, of the scene, including lighting, reflections, and other details usually not shown in the viewport.

Well, in property terms, render is applied over old brickwork to give a 'face lift' or to cover damaged brickwork. Like a layer.

Not sure of the context you are asking this in though :) Probably if applied to art, an overall covering maybe??

I would assume that in this case they are using the definition "to hand over" or "to turn over (in)" I think they just want to let you know that they got your application and they are reviewing it
