What is western art? and what are some examples?

I have art class, and we have to draw something that is western art. My teacher told us that it could be cowboy boots and stuff, but she was looking for a deeper meaning. I don't know what she means, so I need examples and help. This other girl in my class is drawing a coffee cup, and the teacher said that was western art. I don't know how it is. Help me please!
