Question:
I really want to design an album cover for a band. I dont really care how big, or small. How can I do this?

I have already emailed some record labels, to no response. I have a passion for artwork and design. It makes sense for me, at the point in my career, to go out on a limb and do something interesting and let my creativity flow. But is there some sort of agency / reigeme for getting work on album covers?

your biggest problem is not really the record company, most bands or artists will prefer to choose artwork themselves, so it would be wise to possibly try and interest some artists in your work, you could send them a copy of your portfolio.

good luck

There are two components to this

a. Get some design skills and a portfolio. See, the thing is that designing for bands has its own sub cultural sensibilities to deal with - i.e. emo bands (look up http://www.theheadsofstate.com/) have their own look and feel and this is so very different from the Electronica/ Drum Bass design (http://www.burodestruct.net). So see what inspires you and bild your body of work around it.

b. Start hanging out with the bands. Once they know who you are and what you do, and once you have gained credibility, they will give you work. At least, that is how I got my musical posters and CD cover design.

PS:: Keep in mind, this venture won't be worht a lot of money!!! :)

Make friends with people in bands and offer to do their artwork.
