Question:
How can I draw a picture ontop of a photo and put it onto the computer?

Is a scanner the only way? The picture is too complicated to try and draw it crdely using the mouse on some type of paint program.

Are there any other options? I thought maybe printing out the photo and doing the drawing and then taking a photo of it, but I think the quality will be poor. Would scanning it produce a better quality?

Does photoshop have any way you can transfer a sketch onto a photo? I guess if there was a pressure sensitive pad like carbon paper that you could upload your drawing off there onto the computer that would be ideal, but probably expensive. Is there anything like that?

There must be something in this day and age other than a scanner?

Thanks

yes scanner is one way. and it does indeed have a much better quality than a photo.

you can also use a pen tablet that are used for drawing and its the same as drawing with pen on paper (might need a little bit of practice) there are many brands you can buy, popular one being wacom, you can google search some others too. There are various sizes you can get along with other features and the pricing varies.

another thing you could is scan the photo as said above and using Photoshop you can draw slight more accurately by using the pen tool to "draw" the lines etc but you obviously need the program for this

hope this helps

The only way to get an image onto a computer is scan it or take a photo of it.

Artists don't use a mouse to draw - they use a graphics tablet with a pressure sensitive pen like a Wacom tablet http://www.wacom.com - there are cheap models that will do just fine, like under $80

If you have an image editing program you can apply filters to a photo to make it look like a drawing.

Photoshop is not the only image editor - there are free ones, and some designed specially for drawing.

MyPaint http://www.mypaint.org (drawing/art software)

GIMP http://www.gimp.org (more like Photoshop)

Paint.NET http://www.getpaint.net (like a simplified photoshop

Download a free version of GIMP on this site: [link]

GIMP is a great free software you can use for a lot of graphic tasks like retouching photo, image and photo editing). I strongly believe GIMP is the best free tool for photo editing available online nowadays. It's as good and as powerful as photoshop but GIMP can be use also used by a lot of professionals.

Old school method is to get a clear plastic overlay, draw what you want on it...Place it over your photo and then scan it. It works and is inexpensive.
