In my art class in my first day today I told the teacher I didnt like drawing with grids. We were drawing an egret. I think I may have offended him by accident [and since im the youngest one in the classes at 19 with probably the least experience than the 30-60 year olds], but he said it would help me get the proportions right, but I could erase the grid lines he drew for us if I felt confident enough. So, I erased. He said my egret looked pretty good after some tries. Is it just me who doesnt like grids to draw? They make me nervous and uneasy [like I have to draw everything exactly in place, and make it look perfect] and I think Im more confident without them. They remind me of algebra class. Ick.

I don't really enjoy or dislike drawing them... they have their uses. The confidence and nervousness are pretty arbitrary things, as well as your success even without grids, but I suppose you know the point of grids already.

Teachers have probably heard worse, especially in art and design, which is often treated by pupils as though it is intuitive and there is a desperate search to have a “style”.

Grids are tools, like pencils, they make life easier for some people, if you do not need them to get your proportions right then don’t use them – exactly as the teacher said.

there is not anything wrong with making use of a grid, and additionally you already understand you need to make your grid strains lighter. so one can prepare devoid of, make reference strains around the sting of your drawing. this is the comparable as a grid, besides the fact that the strains are invisible interior the middle, you need to imagine the position they may be, in any distinctive case you need to use a ruler. yet differently to entice is.... as soon as you pick a function you need to start with you could then use that as your size instruction manual. i love to start with the ordinary size of the attention. They you could diploma consisting of your pencil what selection eyes it takes to flow around the face, or among the eyes or the scale of a nose. So if the top of the pencil is one eye at the image and it is a form of eye lengths to the subsequent eye, you create a watch on your internet web site and use this eye as a instruction manual. as soon as you're positive you have distinctive valuable properties appropriate you need to use them as a brand new size instruction manual. you could continually move decrease back and be taught you eye size. attempt to no longer get caught up in a single position to lengthy, move during the internet web site. you could continually put on the small print at the top. chuffed drawing, wish this helped
