My husband loves drawing on the computer. He has even sold a number of prints. He prefers Illustrator to Draw.

Adobe Illustrator has long been, and is still the industry standard for creating vector graphics. Still, Corel continues to make inroads into the freelance, home business design markets, partly because of the increased functionality in Corel upgrades, and, because Corel is SO much cheaper.

I started off with CorelDRAW 3, but quickly picked up on Illustrator, at first, because it WAS the industry standard, and a working knowledge of most Adobe products was pretty much required of anyone converting design skills from paper to digital media. (Illustrator, Photoshop, Pagemaker and others)

I never really looked back, and never upgraded my Corel suite beyond Corel 4. The Adobe products worked together flawlessly, and the CS versions, even better.

I am NOT putting down the Corel products. They have managed to remain successful, and service bureaus like printers and copy centers commonly accept the Corel formats as readilly as the Adobe files.

Illustrator is the best. I'll admit I don't have much experience with Coral Draw, and Illustrator is what I know, but after seeing Adobe's presentation on the new CS3 suite, it makes sense to have it because you have more flexibility in regards to using your drawing in other programs. I just love it.

Illustrator, is more powerful, and more intuitive (at least for me it was). I've messed around with Corel a little bit, and its not bad. Really a subjective thing I think, but most do prefer Illy. Corel makes another great program called painter though! :)

illustrator is the industry standard for creating vector art. its tools have more nuances and more control. I dont think corel has history states or actions. plus you can do web design in it and outputs for print much better than corel. I think you have more choices for file fomats, colors, and editability. freehand is similar and I know there are some open soucre vector apps floating around too.overall it is a great graphics app to know.
