Pencil: I suggest you buy 3 sets of staedler pencils or any brand you could afford as long as you could finf B, 2B and 6b type of pencils, that would be you light, medium and Dark for shading puposes.

Eraser: Buy a kneadable eraser, its like a clay or rubber which you could mold to any shape you want, very helpful eliminating small errors or details on your drawing and also a big regular eraser.

Paper: those watercolour papers are good but for you I suggest buying a big sketch pad to keep your work organized.

Tortillion or a shading stamp will be helpful for belnding of course.

Any pen with black ink, since you are making manga/anime art, its better to use black inks to let your drawing come out more like in comics.

The above comment is right, go watch those tutorials on youtube but don't watch them too much.

Being a beginner I would suggest not to buy anything expensive. You can do most of the same effects with cheaper supplies to get the basics down. If you pursue it, then focus on getting better supplies. A basic sketching pad and any set of pencils will do. I started with basic tools before I started upgrading to better supplies. Also I'd suggest picking up some anatomy books and maybe a book for drawing animals and landscapes.

Most professional artists would tell you to stop drawing and re-learn from scratch all of the basics and to learn the basics properly.

For inking, Micron pens are fairly inexpensive and used by most professional artists. I use them myself and really like them.

College/university drawing classes? Yes. My Drawing I class literally began with a lesson on the definition of a line. It was very beginner. ☼

Hey,

A very good site that teaches how to draw realistic pencil portraits is http://pencilportraits.toptips.org

I have searched so many sites on the internet for so many years (wasting my time really) to try and better my drawing/sketching style but have never succeeded getting pasted the flat 2D outcome; that is until I tried using some special methods I found on http://pencilportraits.toptips.org. This is exactly what I have been searching for and with time on my hands I have the outcome I have always wanted. I bought this online course. I strongly recommend it.
