which software is best for drawing with a digital pen?

Hi I have a digital pen mouse and I want to draw on pc, windows xp.
Which is the best software that allows to draw well?
When I draw on paper, my lines are better. When I draw by digital pen in photoshop, or in paint.net, my lines are not so good. I cannot control well my line. So My drawings by pencil and paper are better. Is there any graphic software that allows me to draw in computer as good as I draw on paper?

If you want better control over your pen strokes, you need to find some proper drawing/painting software.



Adobe Photoshop, although it can be used for that purpose, was never actually designed for digital art - and it therefore has several shortcomings. Amongst those, it has very limited stroke smoothing capabilities. Also it's not particularly good at simulating natural media such as paint, and the way paint mixes on a real canvas. You usually have to resort to using another tool to blend the colours together.



You might prefer this: MyPaint http://www.mypaint.intilinux.com - it's free - it's really a very simple application, but it is superb at simulating real natural media, like pen, pencil, or paints.



MyPaint also allows you to slow your strokes down (by adding a delay) which helps create smoother strokes.



If you want to use an image editor along with MyPaint, for editing the artwork you created, I suggest you get GIMP http://www.gimp.org (also free) and the free ORA plugin here: http://registry.gimp.org/node/18435 - so you can work between both applications.



Also for GIMP you can also get an addon called GPS (GIMP Paint Studio) here: http://code.google.com/p/gps-gimp-paint-studio/



The newest version of GIMP (version 2.8) also has very useful stroke smoothing capabilities.

if you want to draw as good as you draw on paper, that will take long. i'm drawing on the computer for like 5 months and i don't have the results I want. If I want my lines are good, i use pixelmator, it has a good tool. but yeah, it's for mac. i heard there was a windows version for it but i'm not sure. what i also do, i draw on deviantart

you can register and click 'draw with damuro'. it has great brushes and i started drawing there and then i tried all sorts of programs. now, when i want to make a drawing, i use at least 3 different programs.

paint tool sai is good for shading and coloring, many people also use gimp, they say it's really good. i never worked with it, so i have no idea.

all of these programs are free, only not pixelmator.
