So I'm applying to the Graphic Design program at Penn State University, which is extremely competitive. For our application we have to choose something, like an issue or event that is important to us, and make poster.

This is my poster so far:

I'm seventeen years old, and I'm a Senior in HS. What do you think? Do I have a good chance? And could you tell me what you think I could improve on/ideas for my poster?

Thanks everyone who responds, I really appreciate it.

The poster layout itself isn't bad...the graphical part of it is good. But the typography (the block letters) isn't very good... it's hard to read, and the font type you chose doesn't really have a purpose (nor does it match the other font you used)

Poor choice of fonts and placement. I'm not fond of those colors, mostly the green and blue. Try a different shade?

The guy on the bottom left is a bit random.

I would make the two people jumping the focal point and enlarge it.

if you're going for the whole "freedom of expression" theme, make it a ton of stuff pushed together in one poster

have music in there (fer example a punk person wiht headphones)

poetry (have some really inspiring poetry in there. quotes are great)

drawing

the arts, basically make it a huge collage

and dont just stick to warm colors use variety and value

dont overdo the silluete thing

but if you like the poster the way it is, dont change it

I like it very much. The only thing that catches my eye is the rainbow of colors and where it crosses that sillouette of the earth...I would widen the colors so where it goes through would be at a different angle. Everything else I like real well.

The very very best of luck!!!!!!!!
