Do I have to know how to draw to be an animator?

I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question but: Do I have to know how to draw to be an animator? See, I'm really into animated movies, and have always been fascinated with them. Recently, I've been looking into going to an art school to learn animation. However, I don't know how to draw (at all) which I see as a big problem. Is it a big problem that I can't draw very well? Do I learn how to draw if I go to an art school?

No, but it would help. South Park is or was originally animated by using cutouts in various layouts.

Disney animators traced and painted other artist's originals.

These days everything can be done on computers.

No, but it would help you considerably and yes going to an art school will help teach you how to draw. Schools are there to teach you, which I highly recommend you go to and learn.

Especially if you want to better yourself in that field and move up the latter

of success.
