combine several untesils like a spoon and a knife, but awkwardly, and add a random one like a plunger or faucet. think about it. make it something that you cannot really come up with a purpose for, but it gets people thinking about it, nonetheless.

All you have to do is pick which untensil you want to draw then make it either do something completely unrelated to its kitchen purpose or have it represent something completely different from what it really does. It also helps if you distort it somehow. You have to use your imagination for the most of it, but this'll get you started.

If this was an assignment from art class this is what I would do.

A.> Look up Surreal Artists like Salvadore Dali. Find an artist that you feel you can bond with artistically.

B.> Next take a picture of your favorite utensil and upload it to your photoshop program.

1.> Warp the image

2.> Stretch the image horizontally

3.> Stretch the image vertically

C.> Next save each image

D.> Now print your favorites and put aside.

E.> Do 3 blind contour drawings of the utensil.

This means to place the drawing paper and pencil away from your perphial vision and draw the image without looking at your paper. IT IS A REALLY WEIRD FEELING at first. You might feel dizzy or spacey at first. THIS IS NORMAL!!!!

GO SLOWLY AND DRAW EACH DETAIL.

When you are finished, trust me you will laugh! It will not look like the utensil at all but that is not the point of this exercise. The point is to teach your mind to look outside of the image so it can be distorted. The left side of your mind will tell you, it knows exactly how to draw the utensil but the right side of your mind is where you will find the inspiration to draw it surreal.

Continue on to draw it blind two more times, each time turn the object in a different direction.Do not erase, just draw exactly what your see.

F.> Now do 3 drawings called Contour drawings where you look at your paper while drawing the image.

You will notice by comparing the drawings, that your blind drawings will actually show more detail than the contour ones.

G.> Now look at your print outs of your warped images. Choose the one you feel best represents your description of surreal.

H.> It you have to blow up the image so you can accurately draw the image. Do about 3 to 5 thumbnail sketches, where you only show minimal details. Choose the best sketch.

I> Now, take a few mintues to be away from the drawing, by getting food, stretching etc. This will relax your mind to get your mind ready to take on the drawing.

J.> Use non-verbal music, to set the mood (New Age is the best) and make sure all of your distractions are taken out of the room or area.

K.> Get all of your supplies ready such as different types of pencils ranging from harder pencils like These are lighter in pencil lead color H, 2H, 4H, 6H, 8H then HB to F> Finishing pencil to the softer pencils like HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 6B, 7B, 8B, 9B which is the softest and the darkest.

Stumps, Erasers like the kneaded erasers to gum erasers.

Do not smudge with your fingers because the oils in your hands will make the drawing harder to erase if you have to later on.

L.> Now set up your image and your music and proceed to draw your image!
