Help with the rainbow fan?

I tried making the rainbow fan by painting the three blades the primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) but instead it just turns brown when its on :( any suggestions on how to make it look like an actual rainbow?

Because you might not have the colors in the right order. Must be red, yellow,blue, in the order that the blades spin.

It's because your eyes don't work like a camera. It has nothing to do with the order that you paint the blades- the rainbow effect is an interaction between the speed of the fan and the effective shutter speed of the camera. If you want to see a rainbow with your own eyes, you need to paint horizontal stripes on the blades- or look at it through display on your camera or video camera.

Uh, the blades go in a circle, the order you paint them in has no effect.
