Taggers are talented. I've seen some awesome artists out there on the streets. There have been lots of books on tagger collections, it's amazing. I think you should tag all the haters' houses next!!
Anyone who doesn't think tagging is an artform, doesn't know what art is. Peace!

First, art comes in many forms. People call random shapes and scribbles art when in reality it looks like a five year old drew it. Where as graffiti/tagging is a tagger spray painting their name on a wall that already looks like crap. I don't know if you guys know this but where do you see empty walls in the city or anywhere in fact? Graffiti is an expression it's where taggers go release stress and when they start to paint they believe they are much more than what they are in reality. Tagging has different styles it depends on the tagger. I have been around graffiti and taggers all my life and they make beautiful pieces and use it to express what they cant say. There are some taggers who are artist and can also draw and there are other who just write a name who no one even cares about. Taggers are aloud to get permits now and tag on empty walls. So before you guys start saying it "childish" know the definition.
Graffiti: is a type of art
Tagger: a person who writes graffiti using their nickname or identifying mark

Tagging has been a problem for many years now. The battle between police officers and the taggers lie mainly with the fact that we can't be everywhere at once. If officers were able to predict when a crime would occur, imagine how much better our world would be. Taggers generally operate at night, and rely on the shadows and areas that get minimal patrol. News media in I'm sure your area has stated at least once that there is always a shortage of man power in your respective law enforcement agencies. Officers are tasked to be reactive and pro-active in the same shift. Sadly though, officers are more reactive, thus responding to their calls more than patrolling the dark alleys. Don't get me wrong, I've spent many hours on patrol myself, and have caught many criminals in the act, but there are just times that you have to take your calls and go home. Cameras have been very helpful in catching many criminals in many different types of crimes, but it's not full proof. I would assume that the only way that tagging will stop, is once the gang violence stops. We can hope, but not sure it's ever going to happen in our lifetime. Hope this helps.

Have you ever asked for places to tag? There are many spots in a city or town that have wall space that could be decorated. Asking permission should be a part of the deal if you are proud of your art. But I wonder if for some taggers, doing their "art" in secret is part of the thrill.

teenagers do a lot of stupid things because they think it's 'fun.'
fact is, most tagging looks like crap. if we have to look at your crap, at least make it interesting; i mean, the world doesn't care about the childish nickname that you gave yourself.
lots of graffiti artists make beautiful work, but taggers...no talent. take an art class instead.

You tag because it's fun? Which part, painting, or running away in the dark?
Holy crap, "give us a place to tag"??? What is that, a threat? And since when has ANY artist received free canvas?
If you want to be taken seriously, enter a call to entry for a mural artist and get paid for it.

So I can paint my next picture on your kitchen floor then? I mean I want to paint a good picture. I don't think I'll ruin your floor. If you give me some place else to do it I'll go there. Why is it up to others to supply you with a place to do your art. And all due respect, fancy lettering is BARELY art at all. Its doodling.

You yourself just demonstrated the level of narcissism common to taggers.
You think that what you do is so important that you must be PROVIDED a place to your liking to do it in. It's not good enough to do it on your own bedroom walls, or on your own property. God forbid you purchase your own wood or canvas to paint on. No, you must not only be provided with square footage for graffiti, but it has to be public space, where people are forced to look at the blight. You even think you have the right to blackmail people in order to get what you want---"Give me a place for my graffiti, and then I won't have to do it to your house!"
Somehow, you think that's reasonable.
You graffiti morons think you're the cutting edge of creativity, when you're really just the most unoriginal sort of vandal. You're the very symbol of society's continuing celebration of dysfunction and devolution. And we're supposed to reward your vandalism and arrogance with free surfaces for your little displays of masturbatory egotism? Get over yourselves and learn how to make real art.
Or go to jail, for all I care, if you can't respect private and public property.

If you had people doing drawings over your tagging, maybe you wouldn't like it so much.

By tagging, you damage other people's property. Accept it.
