MS Office (and by extension Publisher) can import

.gif, .gifa

.jpg, .jpeg, .jpg, .jfif, .jpe

.bmp, .rle, .dib, .bmz

.png

.tiff

.emf

.wmf

With the right graphics filters installed you can import:

.cmg

.cdr (CorelDraw)

.eps (eps may be your best bet)

.ct, . pict

.pcz

.wpg

I've often used Microsoft clipart in other projects, I've found the best way is to place the clipart in a Word document, then copy and paste to Illustrator. Another option is to convert the Word file to pdf which can be opened directly in Illustrator or Photoshop. (Illustrator retains vector data though where Photoshop doesn't).
