Well, if you are looking for something a bit radical and challenging, how about this.. here in the UK (sorry, I don't know where you are from..) we have a programme called Richard and Judy, and they were doing a survey where they showed the general public loads of famous peoples eyes (nothing else, just their eyes..) and asking them to say which ones they thought were most kind, attractive etc. And one pair of eyes that rated really highly as someone who had kind eyes, handsome eyes etc... was Osama Bin Laden. So maybe a portrait of him, showing his complete passivity and calmness, with that hatred burning underneath....

I would say a soldier at war is a little predictable, but if you want something like that, how about focussing in on a child soldier (eg in Africa.) If you use a subject like that, all at once, his expression becomes that much more significant. Or a female soldier. Or maybe a factory worker, that look of utter boredom, but at the same time, wondering what is going through their heads?

Good luck anyway!

I know how frustrating it can be when it comes to visual arts as I am a student at it myself. I think it will be best if you consider pictures if celebrities and put the main focus on the eyes. I mean a normal picture you would find in a magazine. Try searching for images of people who are depressed or suicidal. Try marriage pictures. Try pictures of people after birth. Try any picture which has a series of mixed emotions as they are the most expressive!

I hope you do win and if you would have let me know in greater detail what you are looking for, i could help u even more.!

Sounds like a cool project, but hard to say without more detail on how you are transforming the original into your own piece. Mona Lisa is a good one, but it's also the one everyone thinks of first...which could make it border on cliche. If you're thinking soldier, maybe someone related like Abe Lincoln; think of how much was on his mind yet his portraits are very stoic with a hint of something blazing in the eyes. Or maybe you could use Google Images & search for art + portraits + old masters + victorian...or whatever time period appeals to you. Maybe something will pop out at you.

Good luck.

How about drawing the blank expression of someone who doesn't do their own homework.

You don't want to win first place or you would have done the work. You want to steal first place. Skip the art classes. You'll make a great corporate middle manager someday.
