Drawing, even if is a fantastic pastime and an effective way to pay the time, could be a actually difficult task and that is way you need that manual from here https://tr.im/jGkXW , Realistic Pencil Portrait Mastery so that you can begin with the right foot.

That Realistic Pencil Portrait Mastery eBook is composed by Christopher Sia, a Pen Portrait Kitchen and an teacher in this art through the prior 5 decades

Mr. Sia is very comprehensive and you are able to completely follow along his whole drawing process.  If you intend to see each part of how his drawings are put down, you will discover them.  There are numerous great tips and tips on covering and dragging down tricky portions like hair.  The procedure map offer you a birds-eye view of the pulling method and the workouts have some extra beneficial information.

Architecture is a great way to practice cross hatching. It's one of my favorite techniques to show shadows.

Let me see if i can find some good pictures, and I'll edit later.

Here's a picture with a lot of crosshatching:

And if you want to do buildings you can google 'architecture' of 'buildings' and tons come up.

portraits of family members, buildings(specially old churches) , still lifes, if you live in the country then an old barn with maybe a cow or horse, if you live in the city then sky scrapers or some tall buildings work....or if you want a really good landscape try a lake or pond...
