Is it cheating or just a drawing technique if I use measurement squares?

I mean when I going to draw something, with my rule I divide the original drawing into squares, then I draw the same squares with my rule in my blank page, and then copy the drawing, this is to help me with the proportion. Is this cheating?

In art, the ONLY thing cheating is would be to take someone else's artwork and call it your own.

NOTHING else matters but the end result. How one acheives this result should be irrelavent to the viewer.

NOooooo, I think it's just a case of not letting your hair down & going for it. I have a degree in pop psychology & I believe your compensating for a fear of failure.A master of the discipline was asked what he felt like when he was standing in front of an empty canvas. His reply was,"Sheer terror.". I consented with him whole heart-idly. Sheer terror in my opinion is just nervous energy that can be overcome. When I sit down to render a drawing I begin with a very sharp 2B pencil & a very light touch.& a kneaded eraser. I take deep breaths & relax while I am measuring with my minds eye "direct proportions". I am not afraid to use construction lines (which is basically what your doing) that I can erase later, or not, if I think it might help someone to learn. The thing is, be a tiger, full of self - confidence and don't forget that artists will always possess the biggest egos.Learn all the tricks like,a double line for instance that to the eye vibrates.etc, etc etc.remember it begins as a gift & ends as a talent. Now put up your hair & go for it. Signed, Study the Masters

Nope, the great masters used the same technique. Plus this will help you learn proportions and as you progress you eventually can put away the grid method.
