Hi Rob,

"Being intelligent and knowing art and how to apply math, although most mathematical computations are being worked out by computers now-a-days. A fundamental understanding of computers along with the ability to visualize abstract concepts in 3D, + model making + good communication skills + understanding of, and experience in, building construction + the enjoyment of details with a slight OCD compulsion + self confidence + ability to learn (forever) + fundamental understating of finances + acceptance that you'll probably never be financially rich."

"In order to become an architect, you will need to earn at least a bachelor’s degree. All of the state architecture boards require graduates to also complete at least a 3-year internship before taking the architecture licensing exam. Architects should have an aptitude for math and excellent written and verbal communication skills. They should be able to work closely with clients, engineers, and designers during all steps of a project."

"Other skills or qualities which are considered to be assets for an architect include having general knowledge about the history of architecture, having awareness for environmental factors, having the ability to be an analytical thinker, and having a great imagination."

Architect Program Curriculum

"Architecture programs generally include courses in building and materials construction, architectural history and theory, graphic design using computer aided design, mathematics, physical sciences and professional practice. In-class learning can be complemented by work in a design studio, where students implement what they've learned to create drawings and three-dimensional models."

Good luck with it,

Their IQ is above average, but not high enough. Most of them have spent a long long time getting their degrees and advanced certifications, and now -- they can't get jobs! Of all the "learned professions," (medicine, law, engineering) this is the lowest paying, the least secure and least satisfying. You are at the beck and call of clients who change their minds every few minutes, of vendors and suppliers and contractors who, if not Mafiosi and gangsters, are thugs, corner-cutters, and ignoramuses, of government officials who, if not Mafiosi and gangsters, are etc. etc., and of critics and journalists who couldn't build a toy house of Lincoln Logs. The alpha dogs of architecture historically have been tyrants, egomaniacs and indifferently gifted -- except for the gift of gab. Their famous buildings leak, are rotting, hae not aged well, andare pointless exercises in egotism and trashiness. An architect is a carpenter who can't use a T-square, a mason who can't lay brick, and an electrician who would stick his finger in a live socket to make sure it's working.
